FIELDWORK OPPORTUNITIES
Following two seasons of excavations the Barcombe
Roman Project will continue in 2010 in Church Field where the remains
of a Roman bath-house have been revealed. The excavations will again
be a joint project directed by David Rudling of the University of
Sussex and Chris Butler of the Mid Sussex Field Archaeological Team.
University of Sussex summer training courses will form part of this
research project.

About Us
The Mid Sussex Field Archaeological Team was formed in 1987
to carry out archaeological research in the central Sussex area of the United
Kingdom. Since then it has carried out numerous fieldwork projects, including
the excavation of a Beaker Bowl Barrow, a Saxon cemetery and settlement, Roman
pottery kilns, and a Mesolithic hunting camp. It has also undertaken landscape
and fieldwalking surveys, and has carried out a number of watching briefs in the
area.
The Team currently has over 120 voluntary members, and publishes a
newsletter three times a year. In 1996, it was runner up in the Pitt-Rivers
Award, at the British Archaeological Awards as a result of its rescue
excavations at Friars Oak, Hassocks.
You can join MSFAT, which costs just £8 for a year. The MSFAT
Director, Chris Butler, is a flint expert, and will occasionally run digs on
prehistoric sites, especially Mesolithic. He can be contacted by email:
